Christmas and Spectrum Noir #3 ...

Hello lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week has started well.  As I mentioned in a post last week I’m attempting to create cards that are shabby chic or OLC & CAS, which is not my normal zone!  This card is my first attempt at a Christmas shabby chic card and it’s not quite there yet.  The really good thing about that is that I’ll have to keep practicing shabby chic style, lol, such hard work trying out new styles of card but I do love playing with inks, paints and stamps so for me trying new or different is my idea of  heaven, and I love all the different shades of blue anyways here it is …

An A6 again love the colours of blue
Such a beautiful stamp

Finally remembered to get out some of my old embellishments lol!

Created for me and especially for these Challenges

Colours and theme

It was so good to get one of my Scribbly Bird stamps out again and I got to use several embellishments, glitter and die cuts too.  I created the background by using two shades of Spectrum Noir AquaTints to a snippet of watercolour paper and I blended them together with copious amounts of water and left the paper to dry.  The Scribbly Bird was stamped and heat embossed onto snippets of canvas paper.  I originally coloured it with acrylic paint but I wasn’t happy with the end result so I coloured some white acrylic with the blue from the Primary set, a little black from the Essentials set and something else that I can’t remember – I am very naughty because I don’t write down what I am doing – I just blend the colours in the palette on with paint until I am happy with them lol.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do soon.  ttfn Karen x

Unruly PaperArts Challenge The Written Word

It’s obvious from my latest posts that I love the sketch at Stamplorations this month.  I love that I was able to slightly adjust the way I stamped the images and added more details whilst still following the sketch.  I cut and scored A4 card to create an A6 card and randomly stamped one of the butterfly stamps across the card with a Distress pad.  I tried the layout before actually gluing everything in place and I felt that something was missing.   I got my very dirty Stamplorations butterfly mask out and used a water soluble pencil to draw around the butterflies.  I stamped the small solid butterflies onto white card snippets and cut them out before turning them over and colouring the whole butterfly with Perfect Pearls Perfect Red and I also decided to colour the drawn butterflies with the same Perfect Red.  The snippets of PP I also coloured with a weak wash of Perfect Pearls.  I place all pieces aside to dry before adhering where I wanted it to be.  I die cut friend from snippets and added a bling border between the card and the snippet of paper: simples again!

This is a very quick post from me today – I have my head down creating Christmas cards right now lol!  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do soon  ttfn Karen x

Christmas with Spectrum Noir #2 ...

I’m trying out different card styles at the moment.  I’m concentrating on getting our Christmas cards created so my mixed media experiments on tags or canvas is on hold.  However I am experimenting to see if I can create and like mixed media one layer Christmas cards and I want to get them created as early as possible.  This lovely card I absolutely adore and it’s not in my usual Christmas colours and it falls into the mixed media category.  The stamp is one that I won from the old Pan Pastel challenge blog and this is its first outing lol.  I’ve been going through my box of NBUS stamps and my Christmas stamps to take out stamps that I’ve not used much.

I inked up the house stamped and gave it a quick blast with my heat gun; I wanted to make sure it was completely dry before colouring as I stamped onto an A6 card.  I have to be careful when I’m inking/colouring/stamping because I am a klutz and regularly ruin cards when trying out one layer or CAS.  So I covered most of the card with doubled up kitchen towel before colouring this image with my Spectrum Noir AquaTints, I got the colour and look by adding layers of ink and then heat drying before going back in with more colour.  Once I had finished and the card was dry I scored a border around the card approx. 5mm in from each side.  I often do this when creating a one layer card because I love the texture and detail it gives to the card.  It was at this point that I decided to stamp the sentiment: next time I need to remember to do that before I score the border lol!  I grabbed my Creative Expressions texture paste and went around the scored lines to give it some snow.  I wanted there to be a layer of thick snow at the bottom of the house so I applied a thick layer of gesso which I sprinkled with glitter: simples!

There will be another card later today but it’s not Christmas, I am trying to not bore you all too much lol!  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do soon ttfn Karen x

I will apologise in advance there is going to be at least two posts a day for the next four/five days and an avalanche of Christmas cards and several sketch cards too.  I've been using my Spectrum Noir AquaTints heavily to colour stamped Christmas images and thoroughly enjoying it too.  I wanted to colour this image with an Aurora Borealis sky and I managed it.  I’ve got to practice creating one on a much larger scale next.  I am very grateful that I have three different sets of ATs too because I used the blue from the Perfectly Primary, the black from the Essentials, the pink red and green from the Beautifully Grunge.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do soon ttfn Karen x

Hello lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well, nearly the weekend already lol.  I’ve a card I created especially for some challenges to show you today and here it is …

As soon as I saw the challenges at Stamplorations and Unruly I wanted to create a project that would fit both of the monthly themes because The Written Word and Newsprint theme both perfectly fit together!
I turned the sketch upside down, used butterfly stamp that is made up of printed words, and added the large sentiment, moved the line of three to go down the centre

Unruly PaperArts Challenge The Written Word
I used newsprint PP & this particular butterfly stamp because it is made up of words and the ‘hello’ embellishment is the perfect finishing touch

Sorry I’ve not been around recently but I caught a nasty virus and it knocked the stuffing out of me so I’ve been stuck on the sofa for over a week.  Sadly we’ve not been able to go shopping or to the post office either.

I started to feel better today and I was lucky that I had created several cards for several challenges before the virus hit.  I was able to photograph them earlier today and I’ve quickly edited and added my signature to them and that’s why I’m doing a very quick post lol!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this soon  ttfn Karen x

House of Cards stamped punched window technique with snippets & Tim Holtz STAMPtember stamps ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors I really hope that you are all well and safe.  For anyone who was in or are affected by what has happened in Paris I send you my love and my prayers.  Mans inhumanity to others has once again shown its ugly side this weekend.  It seems silly to be sharing a card and I have gone back and forth in my mind many times today but the overwhelming thought is if I don’t post if I allow them to interfere they have won so we will all battle on and so they will never win.  I thought it was worth posting anyway and here it is …

A bigger card today: 15cm square

I love this Blueprint stamp and it will get used a lot and

I had small and not so small snippets of orange coloured card from Octobers orange obsession and they were absolutely perfect for this project.  Because they started out orange this card was a quick and easy creation.  I have had to hold myself back a little this month because I could have become totally obsessed with the HOC technique this month lol!  I do love trying something new and then loving the end result.

Using 300 gsm card I cut it to be a 148mm square card blank.  Using more 300 gsm card I cut two 140mm square pieces.  I stamped and heat embossed the birthday hat blueprint onto the bottom left hand side of one of the 140mm square pieces then I played around before deciding the final position for the die cut aperture.  Once happy I used a circle die to cut the 140mm square piece.  I stamped the hat onto another snippet of orange card and die cut more snippets for the scalloped frame and the ‘friend’.
Recently Jennifer McGuire shared a video about using Funky Foam for some of your self adhesive pads.  I tried it out earlier last month and I have continued with it.  I created a test card before creating my DT card and I use normal foam pads on the test run.  The top layer dipped in areas of the card.  So for my DT card and this card I cut 30mm square pieces of funky foam and then I drew around my largest circle die.  I cut out the circular piece larger than the line I drew and attached to the die cut aperture piece with double sided tape before positioning and using more double sided tape to attach it over the stamped layer.  Underneath that top layer there is one big piece of funky foam and there are no dips, it looks great, and, it’s thinner and lighter than shop bought foam pads.

I hope you are well, safe and happy wherever you are.  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do soon ttfn Karen x

If you want to know how I created the blue card with circular marks on it all details can be found here.
This is all about using up a lot of snippets left over from other creations and using an image I had stamped a while ago but not gotten around to colouring until now.  So on my to do list is to use several snippets so I can check that one and to create birthday cards for men and that too can be checked and as I want to create a box of cards to give as Christmas presents I can add another little tick to that list too.
The only problem I have is trying to remember exactly what tools and supplies were used to create the card/paper originally lol!  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do soon  ttfn Karen x

Distressed in blue, with a little red and yellow too ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week going well.  I am so sorry I have been MIA for a while it was the usual issue and combining that with new medication, details below. Anyways I’ve a card to share with you and here it is …

Many different mediums were used to create this card.  I used H2Os to stamp the flowers with onto a white card snippet.  Once the H2O had dried a little I was able to drag out some of the stamped paint lines to colour the whole flower and I love to do that because it’s an easy way to achieve the no line stamp look which in turn makes me look artsy, even if it isn’t artsy lol!  Once I coloured all of the flowers I left the panel to dry before colouring the white background with blue H2O.  I used old papers to cover a card and then I used my Pan Pastels to add blue to the edges and to create a distressed look on the card.  I think these papers came with a magazine but I can’t remember lol!  I am doing my best to use up that old paper although I may end up doing a UK candy of DP/PP; unfortunately the cost of international P&P makes it too expensive for me to post internationally.
I’ve not been creating or blogging because I was in so much pain and I’ve had so many issues with that and the fall out that it creates.  Last week I had to see my GP and he has finally agreed with us that my back pain and fibromyalgia is a lot worse.  I actually broke down, the last couple of months have been hard with very little relief from the pain and not enough sleep.  Normally I’m resistant to taking more meds because of how many I take for pain, depression, and to stop the RA doing any more damage.  After a lot of prodding from me and the RA department he’s finally agreed to me trying a different and new to me medication.  One of the immediate side affects has been a case of severe zombie-fied for about a week; the first few days were a complete blur.
Prior to that I hadn’t created anything new for a while and now we’re hoping I may be getting over the worse of the zombies because I actually stamped a couple of images today and I am going to colour them next: yay!  I’m hoping to get back to it and getting Xmas prepped with those special cards and other stuff and I hope to be visiting you all soon too.  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do soon ttfn Karen x

Lots of Bling at Let's Craft & Create ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well.  It’s a new month and that means a new theme at Let’s Craft & Create Challenge and November’s the challenge is Lots of Bling (um I might have gone a bit OTT with the pink and the bling lol) and here is my card …

An A5 card and okay to post too

This card was mostly created with many snippets and very old stash lol.  I folded an A4 piece of 300 gsm card to create an A5 card.  The PP is very old from my use it up paper stash.   The rest of the paper and card are from my snippets box because I have a lot of snippet backgrounds from where I’ve played with colour, inks & paints this past year.  The snowflake panel was coloured with H2O’s and stamped and embossed with one of my favourite snowflake stamps.  The purple panel was a small white card snippet that I coloured with AquaTints (ATs).  The die cut tree was a cream card snippet coloured with ATs.  Snowflakes were die cut from silver paper snippets coloured with my ATs.  Flowers were cut from a thick silver paper, which is almost like fabric on the reverse.

I recommend that you go and see what my team mates have created too: they are very talented card artists and their gorgeous projects can be seen over at Let’s Craft & Create Challenge details below or on the LHS bar.  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do soon ttfn Karen x
