A final off the page project for August challenges ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your weekend is going well, especially as it’s a Bank Holiday weekend in the UK and some peeps won’t have to work – I hope you all get to play and keep dry.  It has been a typical UK summer of variable weather and talk about getting an entry into a challenge by the skin of my teeth!  I started this project on August 2 and last night I remembered I wanted to finish it lol!  I don’t think I’ve ever made as many of the page projects as I created this month and I’ve loved it lol!  I’ve another experimental piece to share with you tonight and here it is …

Another decorated chipboard circle
Another decorated circle which will go in my completed off the page projects suitable for Christmas!

Created for me and especially for these Challenges:
Lavinia Stamps Challenge Anything Goes Not a Card
Lisa B Designs Challenge Lavinia Stamps
Stamp and Create Challenge One for the Girls
Stamping Sensations Challenge Anything Goes with a Stamp and a Die
Try It On Tuesday Challenge Sending You Flowers

Over the summer I’ve played an awful lot with my old H2O’s and newer Spectrum Noir AquaTints.  I’m now experimenting using them both on my projects and because I wanted my air dry clay flowers to shimmer I added Ranger Perfect Pearl powder to my palette along with purple Spectrum Noir AquaTints: it adds a lovely shimmer to my colours.
This background was another experiment.  I had finished colouring the images I wanted to colour with the H2Os yet there was still some water in the H2O pots.  I’ve a stash of A4 glossy printer paper from when I was on Joanna Sheen’s DT and I wanted to see if I can use it with my different mediums.  I poured the H2O water in puddles on the glossy paper and brushed the colours out which created a gorgeous ombre effect.
I left the paper to dry whilst I die cut white snippets with my TH Tattered Floral die which I coloured with my new Spectrum Noir AquaTints (thank you Crafters Companion for the July challenge win).  From experimenting with the glossy paper I’ve found that the glossy paper needs to dry naturally because it bubbles if you go too close with a heat gun when embossing.  The rest of the project was relatively simple and easy to do:  another two old stash items used: result!

Happy inky play ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week was good and you’ve fabulous plans for the weekend.  This week was an okay one and we went out today, as feared we both need new lenses for our glasses and I have a lovely tale to share with you lol!
I had an eye test and my eyes were examined by a lovely lady optician.  Once all the stuff was checked and re-checked I was shocked to hear that my vision distance has improved.  What really stumped me was finding out that it’s because of the arts and crafts stuff.  Apparently I’m ‘constantly exercising my eyes’ lol!  I can’t wait to share this with the family lol!  Mum has never really understood my need to create although she does appreciate it.
Apart from needing new lenses for close up I’ve issues with dry eyes and will have to use eye drops permanently.  The RA medication I’m on to stop my joint degeneration also dries my eyes out too and people with RA are prone to dry eyes.  She’s told me to see my GP and get him to add it to my prescriptions.  Both of us worn out tonight because after the optician DH took me clothes shopping and made me purchase new threads, it’s been a while!  I was shocked at the prices of clothes today lol!
Anyways I’ve another summer themed card to share with you today and here it is …

Creating the elements on this card was fabulous fun.  I got to use some very, very old stash, less old stash, a new stamp, new stash and loads of snippets too.  The postcard background was one of my experiments and I won’t be going quite so pink next time lol!  However I am happy with the end result of this one.  The black, pink and white works fabulously and each element works on their own and with each other.

A birthday card for those pesky men ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well,  I’ve created a  couple of male themed birthday cards this past week so that I have a stash for us and a stash to give to my mum and our Beth the next time we’re all together, hopefully in a couple of weeks.  Here is one I’ve created for some challenges and for the male birthday box …

A 125mm square card
It's a super fun stamp perfect for those men!

Shopping Our Stash Challenge #216 Splish Splash:
I used Spectrum Noir AquaTints like watercolour paints
I used AquaTints on both papers and the robot

Inspired by August colour pallette & theme

I also managed to use quite a lot of different mixed media backgrounds I have previously created.  It’s very hard for me because I’ve found that I love that I love experimenting with old and new products, creating what I want, what colours I want and how I want the papers to feel and look.  I have got to shrink my bulging folder of them before I m8ake any more lol!  I also have a current obsession for texture and there are multiple textures and products on this project and thankfully nothing that could be considered ‘girly’ lol!

House of Cards Design Team Reminder Metallic and My Tutorial ...

House of Cards Challenge Blog

Hello my lovely friends, I hope you are having a lovely week.  Over at House of Cards Challenge Blog there is a reminder of our Metallic challenge and a step by step tutorial showing you how to create metallic die cuts using either embossing powder or ultra thick embossing powder.   I have shared a step by step tutorial of how to create your own metallic embellishments and this is the card I shared at the beginning of the month …

I will be adding the tutorial to one of my Page tabs above once the current challenge at House of Cards Challenge Blog ends.  In fact I’m hoping to add more new and re-vamped tutorials soon.

I will have a photographic step by step tutorial but not until October because of commitments so please accept my apologies.  The bits of Windows 10 that were not working for me have, thankfully, been removed yay!!!  Sadly DH has not been so lucky: he has had to delete everything and start from scratch, so happy that didn’t happen to me.

A very quick post today as I have ‘schtuff’ I need to go back and finish, two are done just two more to do, thank goodness!  I love my bright orange, peach and lemon creation and it is staying in my craft room for the time being.  In fact I can’t wait to start creating another one, hopefully soon!  I have candy that is open world wide to new and old Followers.  I would love it if my current Followers were to add their name too, for the post with the link you need to go here.

An unusual background ...

Hello lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week’s going well.  I’ve projects and posts I need to get back to.  I need to create, finish, photograph, edit photographs, type posts and schedule my posts for DT obligations, Christmas card club and challenges.  I may be MIA for a few days because of trying to catch up.

We've had severe issues with Windows 10.  We planned to update over the coming UK bank holiday.  The DT obligations, Christmas Card Club and projects I created should have been finished and the steps above covered by now.  I can’t remember the last time I felt so dumb, so lacking and so useless computer-wise.  It’s fair to say that we’re not happy that our computers automatically updated.  DH had to un-install some of it because the laptop wasn't usable, DH is still having serious issues and this laptop is not perfect but I'm now able to get back to and finish my projects, photographs, edit photographs and type my posts.  I know many have not had issues but we have, and that was shocking.  DH was and still is a computer geek and if a computer geek is struggling with updates something’s not right lol!  I’ve wanted to rip my hair out at times grrr!  Anyways I can now get back to what I need to do and I'll be crafting and working in the background this week to catch up: because it all went so wrong over the weekend I had to stop what I was doing and we had to get this sorted for both of us.

Here is a mixed media card I created especially for some challenges, and thank goodness it was created, photographed, photo’s edited but no post written before the laptop/Windows 10 went potty …

A little 125mm square card
Isn't she lovely!  I'll try to play with the other Rubber Dance stamps I own next lol!

A month or two ago I had a bad fibro flare which meant I couldn’t sit upright at my craft desk, our sofa or our chairs for several days.  I was frustrated and grumpy because I’d had an idea for a background that I really wanted to try before I forgot.  DH went into my craft room (aka the room of complete and utter mess) and found the stencil, the watercolour pencils, a rejected canvas and a rejected canvas snippet for me so lying on my front on the sofa I quickly got the rough idea drawn.
A couple of hours later I had an A3‘ish’ sheet of canvas which I covered with watercolour pencilled dots using one of my Tando stencils.  DH then located a small paintbrush and a pot of water for me.  I was still having to lie on my front at this stage and I used a damp (very lightly) paintbrush to draw the colour in (it was barely damp because I wanted the colours to stay where they were and not blend too much).  I am going to do this again soon.  I’ve no idea why or where I thought of this, I may have been inspired by a blog or Pinterest Pin and I don’t really care because I love the background sheet, all from a piece of art that I tried to create and was going to bin lol.  I had a snippet of canvas paper, probably 125mm x 210mm, that DH located and I drew free form blobs on that piece.  That turned out just as good as I hoped it would so now I have one largish background sheet and one small snippet that are unique in the way that I created and coloured them.  I love it when it works!!!  There was a final bonus after creating these backgrounds: I found doing this so relaxing and so soothing that my fibro flare eased and I was able to sit back upright for an hour or two.

Tim Holtz August Technique Tag ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your day is going well, I have a very quick second post before bed time.  I learnt so much last month from creating the July tag that I knew I had to put some time aside just for me to try the August techniques that Tim Holtz has shared with us this month.  Here is my take on the August tag …

Sadly my photos make the tag look very brown - it isn't it is blue and pink!
That gorgeous collage background

Created for me and to link up here Tim Holtz 12 Tags 2015 August

I’m not going to repeat the technique that Tim shared – if you want to know how I created it go look yourself, lol, I promise it is worth it and then some!  Last month I worried that I didn’t have the right stuff to do it, this month I just played and didn’t worry and my word I so enjoyed it and I learnt so much!

I have never used dies to create a background like that and I had no idea that the inks would act like that either – thank you Tim!!!  I will be creating some backgrounds this month using those techniques – they are awesome and I love my end result too.  Also I feel a lot more confident with collage work too.  Another bonus for me this month was that I found some very, very old 8” square papers and embellishments by, guess who, Tim Holtz lol!  I have no idea how long I have owned them and no idea what collection they came from.

An off the page experiment with old and new stamps ...``

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well.  I have been playing again, I’ve been having so much fun too.  Some of my experiments have worked and some have not, but it was good to play and create a couple of off the page projects and a tutorial for House of Cards.  Today I have my summer colours project to share with you and here it is …

It's about 150 mm in size and has a bit of depth

The whole thing I love it!
I hope you all like it as much as I do!

Created for me and especially for these Challenges
Country View Crafts Challenge Summer
PaperArtsy Challenge Topic #15 Mediums: I was inspired by the original post
I wanted to try out the mediums that I own and see what I could come up with
I did try mixing my SNAT’s with white acrylic paint but the result was not pretty!

Colours & Optional Twist in the garden

I was very lucky to win the July candy at Country View Crafts blog and challenge and I was sent some lovely lush goodies, one of which is A4 bare chipboard sheets: I love bare chipboard because of what I can create with it J.  I cut my chipboard into A5 size and die cut a large circle.  Then I did the following steps:

1.  Added a layer of white gesso and left to dry;.
2.  Painted the circle in DecoArt Americana Buff acrylic paint and left to dry.

I have a lot of white card snippets from my DT creations at the beginning of the month.  I keep a bag for the snippets on my desk and I check it before I start a new project.  Then I followed these steps:

3.  I stamped the Sheena Douglass flowers with black Staz On ink onto the snippets;
4.  I used Perfectly Primary SNAT’s to create a peachy/orange shade in my paint pallette.

The next step was when I decided to experiment with an idea I had a couple of months ago.  I like/love glazes but I’m trying to use the last of my old colouring supplies.  I have inks that are 10+ year’s old, pots of Pebeo acrylics that are about 3-5 years old, a watercolour pallette, 10+ years, and they will not be replaced.   I would love to have more SNAT’s and H2Os (I’ve heavily used H2Os this summer), but I am sticking to my pledge of now colour purchases until the old are gone.  I have mixed my SNAT’s with white acrylic paint but the end result was not nice, to put it mildly lol!

5.  I added a small blob of glossy gel in my paint palette and blended the peach ink until I was happy with the colour.
6.  The mix was a little too thick so I added water to loosen the mix.
7.  I started to colour my stamped poppies and left to dry.
8.  I added more red to the glaze to create a darker orange and I added depth and shadow and left to dry.
9.  I created a lime green glaze in the same way.
10. Once the flowers were dry I fussy cut the poppies out and stuck those and decoupaged some of them too to my chipboard circle.
11.  I made a little blend of red and yellow and coloured up some more snippets that I stamped with orange Staz On and I fussy cut them too and framed the circle.

I have candy that is open world wide to new and old Followers.  I would love it if my current Followers were to add their name too, for the post with the link you need to go here.

Snippets and Very Old Stash ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well.  Following on from yesterdays post I’ve another previously started but until now not finished card to share today and here it is …

Virginia’s View Challenge Embellishments
For some reason I can't add the photograph for Virginia's challenge - it's coming up with a blog error, grr!

With the exception of the flower stamp and the flower die I have no idea if the stash I used is still available to purchase.  The tag, inside the folded over panel, is a snippet from my H2O and stamp experiments.  When we did the re-organisation in January I found this card blank, covered with this DP, no idea when I did that or how long I did it.  I also found a tub of white Tattered Floral die cuts too and I’ve no idea why I cut so many die cuts either!  I must have started a project and then got distracted by something else and never finished that project.  This week I’m planning to get some of the UFO projects finished and I also want to get some of my DT projects created too.  This process happens to me a lot because I have to get a certain project finished that is suddenly urgent.  I would guess that happens to other creative’s too.

I have candy that is open world wide to new and old Followers.  I would love it if my current Followers were to add their name too, for the post with the link you need to go here.

I’m trying to remember to add in extra time because of how up and down my back is right now, some days I can do a fair bit and other days nothing what so ever.  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this week  ttfn Karen x

VOS stash, snippets and multi media play ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your weekend was good and you have had a great start to this week.  I’ve a UFO project finished, yay, and slowly that very old stash is shrinking.  Today’s creation was inspired by challenges, some very old VOS and a bit of mixed media play too and here it is …

I wanted to create some summer themed cards and when I found this old hat card that idea gelled and I decided to create a summer hat.  I dug out my NBUS LOTV postcard stamp thinking it would perfectly fit the summer theme.  I recently finding these old Craftwork Cards hat shape card blanks and this snippet of their really old DP/PP too.  These shaped cards are small so I decided to cut one in half so that I could use the two halves as embellishments.  I looked through my ‘created’ by me paper stash I found a paper that I had planned to keep, then thought to myself well that’s stupid use it!  I knew it would look wonderful on my hat so I used wet glue to adhere it to the hat and fussy cut it.

That paper is the result of playing with Maimeri Glossy Gel.  I used Washi tape to attach a Dutch Doobadoo stencil to a snippet of white card; I put some Maimeri Glossy Gel onto my craft mat, then used a piece of foam and added the gel to the card.  Once I had covered the stencil with the gel I removed the stencil, left the card to dry and got my stencil washed.

The next day I opened my sky blue AquaTints ink and added it to three of the wells in my paint pallette.  The first was kept for pure ink, the second I added water to the ink and in the final third pallette I added a lot more water.  I wanted my paper to be in shades of blue and white, i.e. not a solid layer of one colour: I hope I’m making sense.

I added a wash of water to make the card damp, that helps the colours to flow and the end result doesn’t have hard lines if you don’t want it too.  I applied the three shades of ink with a paint brush, randomly across the card, and I’m happy with that variegated look.  I left the card to dry and once dry I attached it to the hat with wet adhesive and trimmed the excess.  I applied a final snippet of this Craftwork cards DP onto a DL card

I found a snippet of white Bazzill card that I coloured with diluted yellow (AquaTints egg yolk yellow ink is like a freshly organic farmed egg yolk in colour and is almost Fossilised Amber in colour.)  I diluted the yellow AquaTint ink a lot, to create more of a citrus colour, and applied it to my snippet, once that was dry I stamped the postcard and fussy cut it before adding sky blue ink to the edges to create a distressed look, it worked and I love the end result.  I used white die cut snippets of card with the Tattered Floral die.  I coloured the die cuts and a white bloom (Country View Crafts) with the sky blue AquaTints.  Once dry I layered them together and attached to the hat.

I have candy that is open world wide to new and old Followers.  I would love it if my current Followers were to add their name too, for the post with the link you need to go here.
