Mixed Media Experiments ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well.  I know I said that I had posted my last June entry yesterday but I freed up some time so that I could experiment with my mixed media supplies and my MM snippets and that means I could enter this into some more challenges so here it is …

I do love these little A6 cards: a great size for experimenting

Over at the PaperArtsy blog the new Topic is Stencils and I finally have a couple of PaperArtsy mini stamp sets to play with: yay!   I’ve learnt much from PaperArtsy’s blog tutorials about using paints and stencils.  I apply paint through a stencil with a piece of foam or similar and it’s not an issue now.  My painting skills improved this weekend after my weekend jaunt to the point that I now feel comfortable using acrylic paints and paintbrushes.

My little bugs were stamped onto one of my Gelli Plate experiments.  I wasn’t happy with the first print I pulled so I grabbed a piece of paper that was to be binned and pulled a second print which I loved so I stamped these little bugs onto that paper and used them for this card.

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this week.  Thank  you too to my lovely friends out there for the birthday wishes, this year it’s more subdued than usual, we’re together and as okay as we can be and still have a roof over our head which is the most important thing ever ttfn Karen x

Journalling ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your weekend was good and your week has started well.  A final entry for June’s challenges to share today and here it is …

I am quite pleased with my progress.  I'll try to remember to photograph my backgrounds first in future
A final look - that background is wonderful and has so much texture too!

Created for me and especially for these Challenges:
Natalie Kalbach n*studio: grunge stamps and Tim Holtz Distress ink pads
#3 Stencils & Paste; #4 Photo Inspiration; #6 Stamps; #8 New to You (background stamps); #12 May Flowers (in her hair)

I’ve noticed I create gorgeous inky and textured backgrounds and then I glue stuff on top of them, lol, I need to create smaller stuff, lol, so I get to see and touch these backgrounds much more.
I’m very happy I got to do a little journaling this month!  This is a single page spread in my A5 journal.  I had a lot of fun creating the inky background as well as playing with my SNAT’s through a stencil, watercolour pencils to sketch with and using SNAT’s to colour her in with.  A quick step by step is below.

1. Started out with an A4 sheet of white card; attached a Tando Creative stencil; added Maimeri Glossy gel to react as a resist and left to dry.
2. Once dry I used Stampendous Grunge stamp set with two DIPs; adding EP randomly; heat set the whole sheet before moving on again.
3. Attached the Tando Creative stencil and used SNAT that I had watered down in a pallette and ink blending foam to add more colour to the background.
4. Sketched the lady with my watercolour pencils and coloured her with the SNAT’s, fussy cut her out and glued on top of half of the inky background.
5. Stamped the flowers onto other snippets which had been coloured with SNAT’s;  fussy cut them; glued onto her hair; and glued the whole lot into my journal.

Yay!  I’ve another piece of this background to play with – hopefully next month if not before!  Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this week  ttfn Karen x

For a sketch challenge ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your weekend was good.  I’ve popped on to quickly link a card I created especially for some challenges.  I am wrecked from my weekend jaunt and my project isn’t finished so I won’t be able to share that with you for a couple of weeks.  As wrecked as I am I really had an awesome time and I learnt a lot, and I do mean a lot.  Anyways it will probably be a couple of weeks before I can finish my project so I won’t talk any more about that for now.  Here is my card …

Another A6 card and good to post
A final look

Created for me and especially for these Challenges:
Inspired by Stamping Challenge IBSIC#95 I used the colours and sketch

Because I have had my H2O paints out for my stamping projects I decided to play with them on black card, for a change, and I remembered something while painting the card and that is that I don’t like H2O on large black blocks/shape much.  They work beautifully for stamping, painting and fussy cutting individual images and the colours really pop beautifully.  But I don’t like them used on a bigger piece.  It’s a shame I didn’t remember that from the last time I used them on black; mind you that was over five years ago lol!
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do this coming week.
I never know what to say or whether to refer to disasters in real life but it seems so many lovely innocent people lost their lives whilst on holiday.  I hope no sadness comes the way of any of my lovely friends or family of those lovely friends.  It is just shocking and so very, very sad and pointless.

Look after yourselves my lovelies: you are so very precious to me  ttfn Karen x

June Rudolph Day ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week was good – nearly there lol!  Another new follower on Google Friend: welcome Kathy!  I’m very happy to see you here, I hope you’ll like/love what I create when I’m playing with my crafty stash or anything else I’m in the mood to use.  If you’ve any questions leave me a comment and if it’s possible I will get back to you, that’s if you’re easily contactable through Blogger or Google Plus.  If you don’t have an account or blog I’m sorry to say that I won’t be able to contact you.
It’s our lovely Mo’s monthly challenge of creating a Christmas card and sadly I wasn’t able to create one for the May challenge so I made sure I created another card whilst doing my cards for Christmas Card Club over the weekend and here it is …

A rather small and minimal card!

We’re pretty sure I’m not going to be around much next week because of our plans for this weekend!  We know it’s going to have a negative effect on my health but right now I’m so excited about what I’ll be doing tomorrow.  I won’t share now but I hope that I’ll be able to tell and show all very soon (and yes it is something to do with my crafty obsession lol!).

I will try to visit a.s.a.p.  My huge thanks goes to the DTs and my regulars who regularly visit and leave comments.  I really do appreciate the fact that you do leave lovely comments and that you do so even when you know I’m not able to visit as often as I’d love to

I hope everyone gets time to do what you love to do over this coming weekend  ttfn Karen x

More Butterflies and H2O paints ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your weekend was good and your week has started well.  I have loads of chores (not crafty, boo!) that I need to attempt this week so I won’t be blogging as much as I would like.  I will have some news to share soon, as well as more projects ready to be blogged and projects I need to work on but can’t share or hint at yet.
Once again the butterflies on were created from one of my mixed media experiments on A4 card with white acrylic paint.  If you want to know how I created them then the details are here
The background for this butterfly card was created with just water and H2O paints.  I added a ‘coat’ of water and then added H2O’s in pink and blue.  Once again I was experimenting and this time it was for me to see how far the H2Os spread or bleed out.  BTW I love it and will be doing more of these backgrounds!
Anyways today I have another card to share and here it is …

I do have an obsession for this size and fold at the moment!
The texture is fabulous

Christmas Card Club times three ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your weekend is going well.  I had a spell of not being able to craft or create for a while which meant that I couldn’t keep up with my Christmas Card Club rota.  I have spent the last couple of days trying to catch up with the two themes that I missed as well as making a card for my theme which is due today.  It seems odd to me sharing Christmas cards on Solstice Day, the longest day of the year, but hey ho here is my first creation …

The lovely Zoe’s theme was #11 Gift/s so I decorated another gift bag
I have several House Mouse decoupage papers left and I'm going to use them to decorate paper bags
Created for me and especially for these Challenges:

The lovely Kate’s theme was #12 Create a Scene

One more card to go in the box!

Created for me and especially for these Challenges:
I used glitter and embossing powder

I picked this one, of course, theme #13 Pink and White

A Christmas experiment: could I create a flat shabby chic style card?
Loads of pink shimmer, stamped with one of my favourite Christmas stamps in my favourite colour mix too

Glamorous hot summery colours with lots of shimmer and sparkle ...

Hello my lovely friends and visitors, I hope your week is going well.  I really wish you could see the sparkle and shine on this card, Monday’s card was more sparkly too, lol.
I’m playing/using my H2O paints and Adirondack IPs  and I’d forgotten how much I love working with the paints and my very old Ranger ink pads, these were all the rage before Tim Holtz’s Distress inks.
Recently I discovered that I really like shabby chic style but struggle to create that style.  The lovely LC&C DT ladies have inspired me to ‘play’ shabby style, lol, they’re all very talented and very lovely too.
It appears that you all like my use of bolder colour too right now.   A seriously huge thank you for all the lovely comments you’ve been leaving – I hope to be able to visit you all soon.  Another card to share with you today that I created for several of my favourite challenges and here it is …

Another A6 pretty little card
A final look

I used the colours and two sets of IBS stamps
Ranger Adirondack IPs, Stamps & Luminarte H2O paints

I love the Gibson girl panel and the background!  The background was stamped with Adirondacks.  I then over-stamped randomly with H2O paints – the shimmer is a.m.a.z.i.n.g!  I stamped and used normal WC paint to colour the Gibson girl and left the panel overnight to thoroughly dry.  The next day I very carefully painted around her with black WC paint, I left that to thoroughly dry (couple of hours), before over painting the black WC with a thin layer of H2O paint and left to dry.
I have to do that technique again soon: it is so lush!  I hope you like this card as much as I do.  I enjoyed using a mixture of old and new stamps and old and new mediums too.  I don’t think this card looks old fashioned.  WC painting is ‘trendy’ right now and adding bright cheery colours and bling means you have a very happy lady here, who has finally used up three pots of H2O paints.
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do over the coming weekend  ttfn Karen x

This pretty little card has been created with my Spectrum Noir AquaTints, a white pencil, gold sparkle EP and a brown felt tip – sort of simples lol!

Again different techniques were used to create the scene and I have to admit it’s the first time I have created a lovely scene with these stamps.  When I won them I used them a bit but they just weren’t working right for me.  So they have taken me a while to get a good result and I think all the practice was worth it.

I have used heavy acrylic paint to create texture on the birds (hope that is allowed)
The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge #13 A year of choices 1st Birthday: #8 New (sentiment stamps), #10 Birds; #12 May Flowers

I shared how I coloured white card with white acrylic gesso on my post on Saturday, see here, this time I did the same thing but with white acrylic paint instead of gesso.  I did not heat the birds after they had been initially stamped and embossed because I wanted to keep these birds a little smoother, although they still have fantastic texture but not quite so bubbly lol!

Above are the photographs that I took of the paper/card and how it looked before adding more colour with the H2O paints – I left them to dry naturally this time.

I was lucky enough to win the voucher over at Simon Says Stamps challenge at the end of January.  I was very, very careful before placing an order because there is always so many things that are new that I, as a crafter, always want lol!  I ended up ordering stamps, of course, and the sentiment that I used on this one is from one of their sentiment stamps set.  I’m very impressed with the quality of their clear stamps and I love the different sentiments and words that they offer.  This set of stamps will get used a lot!

Thank you so much for taking the time to visit and comment.  I really do appreciate it and I hope you get some time to do what you love to do over the coming week  ttfn Karen x
